Spokane Navy Week,on the dates of 17 – 21MAY 2017; MM2 Sellers, EM1 Hislop, and ENS Andricola attended Navy Week in Spokane, Washington. As a group, they attended a wide variety of events in which they had the opportunity to reach out to Spokane citizens of all ages. This gave them the unique opportunity to teach others about how Virginia class submarines and the USS WASHINGTON serve and protect our nation.
On Wednesday, they were welcomed by attending a concert where Navy Band Northwest performed everything from military songs to jazz covers of popular artists. After the concert concluded, they viewed a firework spectacle over the nearby park to wrap up the day. On Thursday and Friday, they set up a static display at West Valley High School and the Mobius Science Center, respectively. Here, they were visited by children and senior citizens to showcase America’s newest and best fast attack submarine.
Additionally, on Friday morning, they visited the local news studio to take part in a televised interview on Good Morning Spokane. Finally, the week concluded with a military appreciation parade in which we marched with the nearby Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) reservists, a parade committee, various floats, and even a fleet of flawlessly maintained DeLoreans. All during the week we were met with hospitality and gratitude as we enjoyed the local cuisine and night life. Spokane was a lively city with great appreciation for our nation’s military and we look forward to sending the next group of WASHINGTON sailors to their next Navy Week.
