Governor Supports the Commissioning Crew of USS Washington

On behalf of the State of Washington, I would like to extend our state's support for the Washington Navy League's efforts to establish a committee for the commissioning of the USS Washington (SSN 787). Not since the previous USS Washington (BB-56) was decommissioned on 27 June 1947 have webeen privileged to have a ship bearing our state's name protecting our nation' s maritime interests.

There are many complexities associated with commissioning a ship,  and wehave confidence in theteam you have assembled to assist the Navy in this endeavor. We also applaud your efforts to encompass Washingtonians of all ages and backgrounds as we demonstrate our states prideand enduring support of the military.

It was an honor to meet Commanding Officer CDR Jason Schneider, Chief of the Boat ITCM Adam Burchette, LT Eric Stromme, Sailor of the Year EMl Perry Benzschawel,  and Junior Sailor of the Year ET2 Camden Fernald during their recent Veterans Day visit to the Capitol. Thanks to the committee for arranging this opportunity.

I fully support the efforts of the Commissioning Committee and would like to be kept informed of the committee's efforts and progress. Our state would like to support the committee as much as we can. I was happy to see that our Secretary of State and numerous Congressional Members are Committee Honorary Co-Chairs.
